Quick verdict

Wisp is one of the quickest ways to get treatment for an uncomplicated UTI, yeast infection, BV or herpes outbreak without an appointment. Pricing is upfront and often lower than a copay, but it does not bill insurance directly for consultations and it cannot replace in-person exams or lab cultures.

What we like

  • Fast online intake, with most prescriptions sent within hours
  • Wide coverage of vaginal health, herpes, birth control, emergency contraception and STI care
  • Free discreet delivery or pickup at your local pharmacy
  • Upfront prices that are often lower than a doctor's visit copay
  • HSA and FSA payments accepted

Keep in mind

  • No physical exams, cultures or imaging for complicated infections
  • Does not accept insurance for its services
  • Some services vary by state because of telehealth rules
  • Emergency contraception by mail is best ordered ahead, not for urgent use

Few things are more frustrating than knowing exactly what is wrong, a familiar UTI or a recurring yeast infection, and still having to wait days for an appointment. Wisp, founded in 2018, was built to remove that wait for common sexual and reproductive health needs. You fill in an online form, a licensed provider reviews it, and a prescription goes to your pharmacy or arrives at your door in plain packaging.

The service has grown well beyond UTIs into birth control, herpes treatment, STI care, menopause and fertility products. We looked at how the process works, what it costs, and when you should see a clinician in person instead.

How Wisp works

  1. Choose a treatment or use the symptom quiz if you are unsure.
  2. Complete the medical intake, which asks about symptoms, history and medications.
  3. A licensed provider reviews your request, often the same day. For some conditions, such as UTIs, they may follow up by chat or phone, and some states require a video consult.
  4. Get your medication sent to a local pharmacy, often within about three hours, or shipped free in discreet packaging.
  5. Message the care team afterward with questions through the app.

An independent physician decides whether you are a candidate for each prescription, so approval is not automatic.

What Wisp can help with

  • Vaginal health: UTIs, bacterial vaginosis, yeast infections and vaginal dryness.
  • Herpes: treatment for genital herpes and cold sore outbreaks, plus daily suppression.
  • Contraception: birth control pills including a generic version of Yaz, emergency contraception for future use, and medication to delay a period.
  • STI care: treatment for chlamydia, gonorrhea and trichomoniasis, DoxyPEP and at-home STI testing.
  • Prevention and wellness: probiotics, boric acid, D-mannose and other non-prescription essentials.
  • Broader care: menopause and sexual health consults, PCOS support, migraine care, fertility products and weight care.

Pricing explained

Wisp's pricing is shown before you commit, which is one of its strengths. Based on the sources we reviewed, birth control starts from about $5 a month for some generics, with subscriptions often starting around $15 a month. Treatments for UTIs, yeast infections and BV run from roughly $15 to $65, with UTI antibiotics commonly quoted from about $65. Herpes treatment ranges from about $10 to $35 a month on subscription.

Emergency contraception ordered for future use is relatively inexpensive, with ella starting around $24. STI consultations start around $39. Wisp does not accept insurance for its services, though it takes HSA and FSA cards, and memberships such as Wisp+ can lower costs for frequent users. Delivery is free, and first-order discounts are common.

Where Wisp shines, and where it does not

Wisp works best for uncomplicated, recognizable problems, especially if you have had the same condition before. A woman who gets a typical UTI once or twice a year, or who needs a quick refill of herpes medication, will find it far faster than booking a clinic visit.

It is not the right tool for more serious or unclear situations. Fever, back or flank pain, blood in the urine, symptoms during pregnancy, frequent recurrences or new pelvic pain all need in-person assessment and often a urine culture or exam. Wisp itself notes that it cannot perform labs or physical exams. Availability can also vary by state, and pharmacy pickup can occasionally add delays if your local pharmacy is out of stock.

A note on emergency contraception

Because shipped emergency contraception takes time to arrive, it is best ordered to keep at home. If you need it right now, go to a pharmacy, where levonorgestrel pills are available over the counter.

Privacy and convenience

Discretion is central to Wisp's appeal. Packaging is plain, consultations are confidential and there is no waiting room or front desk. For people who feel embarrassed discussing sexual health face to face, or who live far from a clinic, that matters. Orders are processed within 24 hours, including weekends, which helps when symptoms strike on a Friday night.

The flip side of convenience is continuity. Wisp is not a replacement for a regular gynecologist or primary care provider who knows your history and can do routine screenings such as Pap tests.

Getting the most from a Wisp visit

Telehealth works best when the provider has clear information, so take a few minutes over the intake form. List every medication and supplement you take, mention any allergies, and be specific about symptoms and how long they have lasted. If you have had the same condition before, say how it was treated and whether it worked.

Choose pharmacy pickup if you need medication the same day, and check that your pharmacy has it in stock before you head out. Choose delivery for refills, ongoing birth control and items you are ordering ahead, such as emergency contraception.

If symptoms do not improve within the expected time, or come back soon after finishing treatment, message the care team and arrange an in-person visit. Recurring UTIs and yeast infections in particular deserve testing to rule out resistant bacteria or another cause.

Our verdict

Wisp is a well-run, genuinely useful telehealth service for the everyday health issues that are hard to get seen for quickly. Pricing is clear, delivery is free and the scope is broad. Use it for straightforward, familiar problems and keep a local clinician for anything complicated, recurring or new, and it can save you a lot of time and discomfort. For many people, it is worth setting up an account before you need it, so treatment is only a few minutes away the next time symptoms appear.
