Quick verdict

Everlywell is one of the most established names in at-home lab testing, with a broad menu, CLIA-certified lab processing and results that are genuinely easy to understand. It is ideal for routine monitoring and private screening, but some popular tests, notably food sensitivity, have limited clinical value, so choose carefully.

What we like

  • Wide test menu spanning hormones, thyroid, heart, metabolic, sexual health, gut health and cancer screening
  • Samples processed in CLIA-certified labs, with physician review on applicable tests
  • Clear digital results with reference ranges and explanations
  • Virtual care visits available for follow-up in several categories
  • Free shipping, prepaid return labels and HSA/FSA eligibility for many tests

Keep in mind

  • Prices are higher than ordering basic labs through a doctor with insurance
  • IgG food sensitivity tests are not recommended for diagnosing food allergies or intolerances
  • Accuracy depends on collecting samples correctly at home
  • Not a substitute for a full medical evaluation

Everlywell helped bring lab testing out of the clinic and into the mailbox. Founded in 2015 and based in Austin, Texas, the company sells test kits that you order online, collect at home with a finger prick, saliva, urine or stool sample, and mail to a certified lab. Results arrive in a secure online account, often within days of the lab receiving your sample.

Today the menu covers everyday markers like cholesterol and thyroid hormones, sexual health screening, hormone panels for women and men, gut health and even multi-cancer early detection. In our research, Everlywell's strengths are breadth, presentation and convenience. Its weaknesses are mostly about choosing tests wisely, since not every test on the menu offers the same medical value.

How Everlywell works

  1. Choose a test online by category, such as daily health, hormones, sexual health or digestive health.
  2. Receive your kit with instructions, collection materials and a prepaid return label. Shipping is free.
  3. Collect your sample at home. Depending on the test, that may be a finger-prick blood sample, saliva, urine or stool.
  4. Mail it back to a CLIA-certified laboratory.
  5. Get results online with reference ranges and plain-English explanations. Some tests are reviewed by an independent physician, and certain tests require provider authorization before processing.

For some categories, Everlywell also offers virtual visits with licensed providers who can discuss results and, where appropriate, prescribe treatment.

Which tests are most useful?

The most valuable at-home tests measure established markers that doctors use every day: cholesterol and lipids, thyroid hormones, blood sugar markers such as HbA1c and STI screening. These give clear numbers you can track over time and share with your physician.

Hormone panels can be helpful for understanding symptoms, but hormone levels fluctuate through the day and across the menstrual cycle, so follow the timing instructions closely and interpret results with a clinician.

Be more cautious with food sensitivity tests. Everlywell's version measures IgG antibody responses to foods, and major allergy organizations do not recommend IgG testing to diagnose food allergy or intolerance, because IgG often reflects exposure to a food rather than a problem with it. If you suspect a food is causing symptoms, a supervised elimination diet with a dietitian or doctor is usually more reliable.

Multi-cancer screening tests like Galleri are newer and best discussed with a doctor, as they complement rather than replace standard screenings such as mammograms and colonoscopies.

Getting an accurate sample at home

Most problems with at-home testing come from the collection step rather than the lab. A few habits make a real difference:

  • Read the instructions fully first, including timing rules. Some hormone tests need to be taken at a certain time of day or on a specific day of your cycle, and some tests require fasting.
  • Warm your hands before a finger-prick test by washing them in warm water and letting your arm hang down for a minute. Good blood flow makes it easier to fill the collection card or tube.
  • Fill every spot or line completely as shown. Under-filled samples are a common reason labs cannot process a kit.
  • Register your kit online before mailing so your sample is matched to your account.
  • Mail it promptly, ideally early in the week, so it does not sit in transit over a weekend.

If a sample cannot be processed, contact customer support and ask about a replacement kit.

Costs, insurance and HSA/FSA

Everlywell tests are typically paid out of pocket. Many tests can be bought with HSA or FSA funds, and some recurring tests offer subscription pricing that lowers the per-test cost. Insurance reimbursement varies by plan and test.

If you have good insurance and a primary care doctor, routine labs like a lipid panel may be cheaper through your doctor. Everlywell's value lies in convenience, privacy, no appointment and clear results, which many people find worth paying for, especially for sensitive tests.

One practical tip: if you plan to retest a marker regularly, such as cholesterol after a diet change or thyroid levels while adjusting medication with your doctor, look at subscription pricing, which can bring the per-test cost down noticeably.

Who Everlywell suits

  • People who want to monitor established markers, such as cholesterol or thyroid, between doctor visits.
  • Anyone who prefers private, discreet STI screening at home.
  • Busy people or those with limited access to clinics.
  • People who want a clear digital record of results over time.

It is less suitable if you have urgent or severe symptoms, need a diagnosis for a complex condition, or want the cheapest possible routine bloodwork. Quest's consumer service offers walk-in lab draws for more panels, myLAB Box specializes in sexual health testing, and UK readers may prefer Welzo.

Our verdict

Everlywell is a polished, trustworthy option for at-home lab testing, with certified labs, physician involvement where required and some of the clearest results presentation in the category. Start with tests that measure well-established markers, treat food sensitivity panels with skepticism, and share your results with your doctor to get the most value.

Health noteAt-home tests support, but do not replace, care from a doctor. Seek prompt medical care for urgent symptoms, discuss abnormal results with a clinician, and do not use IgG food sensitivity results alone to cut out foods. Cancer screening tests complement, not replace, recommended screenings.

Everlywell FAQs

Is Everlywell legit?

Yes. Everlywell has operated since 2015, uses CLIA-certified laboratories, and involves independent physicians where required. Like any at-home test, results depend on correct sample collection.

How accurate are Everlywell tests?

Samples are analyzed in certified labs using standard methods, so accuracy for established markers is generally comparable to clinic testing if you collect the sample correctly. Some tests, like IgG food sensitivity, measure markers with limited clinical meaning.

How long do Everlywell results take?

Results usually appear in your online account within several business days after the lab receives your sample, depending on the test.

Can I use HSA or FSA for Everlywell?

Many Everlywell tests are HSA and FSA eligible. Check the product page and your plan rules.

Does Everlywell replace seeing a doctor?

No. Everlywell states most of its tests are for wellness monitoring, not diagnosis. Share results with your doctor, especially if anything is out of range.
